| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Margery D. Shinners of Oak Park, who | 4 | | passed away on April 25, 2017, at the age of 51; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners, the youngest of 10 children, was | 6 | | born in Sandwich to Richard "Dick" and Carolyn Duffy on August | 7 | | 11, 1965; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners grew up on a farm where she | 9 | | became accustomed to cooperative living and learning skills, | 10 | | which served her well and informed the management style she | 11 | | used in her professional life; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners, earned a bachelor's degree in | 13 | | communications from DePaul University and a master's degree in | 14 | | social work from Jane Addams College of Social Work at the | 15 | | University of Illinois at Chicago; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners was employed, starting in 1996, | 17 | | by what is now known as the Mainstreet Organization of Realtors | 18 | | (MORe); she first worked as its technology director and also | 19 | | served as Deputy CEO of MORe from 2004 to 2017; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners became CEO of the Mainstreet |

| 1 | | Organization of Realtors in 2017; she managed the day-to-day | 2 | | operations of MORe and its 31 employees, working with the MORe | 3 | | Board of Directors, implementing strategic initiatives and | 4 | | policies and managing finances; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners established MORe's Global | 6 | | Business Council, which provided international opportunities | 7 | | for the organization's members; she led delegations to | 8 | | Springfield, Washington, D.C., and around the world to | 9 | | countries such as Czechoslovakia and China; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners, prior to working at MORe, worked | 11 | | at Moore Data Management Services and CONDEX Multiple Listing | 12 | | Service; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners was well-respected as a focused, | 14 | | personable leader who helped shepherd Mainstreet through many | 15 | | changes during her more than 20 years with the organization; | 16 | | and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners was also credited for enhancing | 18 | | Mainstreet's reputation for professionalism and high-quality | 19 | | services, as well as shaping an internal culture of support and | 20 | | growth for its staff; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners was known by family and friends |

| 1 | | to give great advice and professional guidance; she was known | 2 | | to be intelligent and trustworthy; she was dedicated to her | 3 | | work and to those with whom she worked side-by-side; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners' hobbies included reading, | 5 | | searching out recipes, and cooking; her deepest joy was | 6 | | traveling near and far with her husband and children; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners' last wish was to establish the | 8 | | Margery Shinners Leadership Fund that would promote the | 9 | | leadership of young women in their pre-professional and | 10 | | professional careers; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners was preceded in death by her | 12 | | parents; her brothers, Edward and Robert Duffy; and her | 13 | | brother-in-law, Dennis Voga; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Margery Shinners is survived by her husband, | 15 | | Brian; her daughter, Kelsey; her sons, Nathaniel and Benjamin; | 16 | | her sisters, Melody (Margaret McAlpin) Duffy, Patricia Voga, | 17 | | Jane (Steve) Wolf, Mary (David) Breeden, Carol (Frank) Evans, | 18 | | and Joanne (Patrick) Resendiz; her brother, William (Maureen) | 19 | | Duffy; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Duffy; and many nieces and | 20 | | nephews; therefore, be it

| 1 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 2 | | Margery D. Shinners, and extend our sincere condolences to her | 3 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 4 | | further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to the family of Margery D. Shinners as an expression | 7 | | of our deepest sympathy.
