SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Herbert Arthur "Herb" Henderson of Tremont, who passed away on October 13, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was born in Delavan to Virgil and Ramona Naffziger Henderson on June 12, 1921; he graduated from Mackinaw High School in 1940 and joined the United States Army in 1942, serving with the 30th Infantry Division, "Old Hickory"; he took part in the landing on Omaha Beach on June 10, 1944, D-Day plus 4; he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart; he returned home in 1945 aboard the Queen Mary and married Ruth Evelyn Schwinn in Tremont on July 24, 1948; and

WHEREAS, Herb Henderson worked for Caterpillar for 36 years, retiring in 1982; and

WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was a member of the Tremont Baptist Church, Tremont Masonic Lodge 462, and a charter member of Tremont American Legion Post 1236; he enjoyed basketball and listening to his country music; he flew to Washington, D.C., on the inaugural Greater Peoria Honor Flight in June of 2013; and

WHEREAS, Herb Henderson was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Verle and Randall; and his sister, Lois Tamiyasu; and

WHEREAS, Herb Henderson is survived by his wife, Ruth; his daughter, Sue Ellen Henderson; and his beloved dachshund, Barney; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Herbert Arthur "Herb" Henderson, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Herb Henderson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
