SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary A. Leahy, who passed away on October 9, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Mary Leahy was born in Chicago to Charles H. and Flora (Opferman) Sullivan; she attended Holy Ghost Parish School and graduated from Providence High School in 1937; she married Edward J. Leahy at St. Mel's Catholic Church of Chicago on Thanksgiving Day, November 21, 1940; and

WHEREAS, Mary Leahy worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for a fire extinguisher and safety company; and

WHEREAS, Mary Leahy and her husband were active in the Crystal Lake Country Club and St. Thomas Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the St. Joseph's Guild, the Coordinator of the Traveling Fatima Statue, and a member of the St. Thomas Women's Club, from which she received the Woman of the Year Award; she volunteered her time at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elgin, at the Little Christopher's Resale Shop, and for the Women's Golf League at Crystal Lake Country Club; and

WHEREAS, Everyone who knew Mary Leahy enjoyed her loving personality; she regularly took friends to doctor appointments and chemotherapy; she often sent unexpected cards and notes to friends and family just to cheer them up; and

WHEREAS, Mary Leahy was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; her siblings, Catherine, George, Charles, Joseph, Frances, Flora, and Genevieve; her grandsons, Jeffrey and Brian Leahy; and her beloved daughter-in-law, Jody Leahy; and

WHEREAS, Mary Leahy is survived by her children, Charles (Peg) Leahy, Edward (Janet) Leahy, Tom (Sue) Leahy, Joanie (Jim) Collins, and Mary L. Leahy; her grandchildren, Teresa (Richard) Rosenberg, Michael (Connie) Leahy, Morgan (Marnie) Leahy, Sarah (Jon) Brosk, Elizabeth (Matt) Schwartz, and Edward (Suzi) Collins; her great-grandchildren, Katherine, Abigail, Andrew, Ben, Will, Megan Harmony, Hailie, Nicklos, Chase, Everly, Mitchell, Bradley, Noah, and Quinn; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mary A. Leahy and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Leahy as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
