SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to truly great individuals; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James A. Jones was born to Harry and Ruth Jones on
5August 14, 1944; they later moved to Seneca; and
 
6    WHEREAS, James A. Jones enlisted in the United States
7Marine Corps on April 6, 1966; he graduated from Western
8Illinois University in June of 1966 and a began basic training
9that August; and
 
10    WHEREAS, James A. Jones was deployed to Vietnam, arriving
11on March 30, 1967; and
 
12    WHEREAS, From March to August of 1967, James A. Jones was a
13part of six operations; during that time, he was promoted to
14Lance Corporal; he was wounded during his sixth operation and
15was awarded the Purple Heart; and
 
16    WHEREAS, James A. Jones was killed in action in Vietnam on
17September 7, 1967, during the seventh operation in which he was
18involved; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
2CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Route 171 from Route 6 to
3River Road in Seneca as the "James A. Jones Memorial Highway";
4and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
6is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
7State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
8giving notice of the name the "James A. Jones Memorial
9Highway"; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11presented to the family of James A. Jones, Seneca Mayor David
12M. Spicer, and the Secretary of the Department of
13Transportation.
