HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Lewis University Airport is a 1,000-acre facility
3on Renwick Road between Route 53 and Weber Road in Romeoville
4and is the largest airport in Will County; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lewis University Airport is a national leader in
6aviation education; it was established in 1932 and is well
7known and highly regarded; it gives aviation graduates a strong
8professional network to tap into and a competitive advantage;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lewis University programs are FAA-approved and
11nationally recognized; Lewis University was recently awarded
12the Loening Trophy as the outstanding all-around collegiate
13aviation program in the nation; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lewis University Airport plays a critical role in
15the region as an economic engine; and
 
16    WHEREAS, More than 20 Fortune 500 companies, including
17Caterpillar, Citgo, Harrah's, ExxonMobil, and NASCAR, own and
18operate aircraft and have offices or plants located within 30
19minutes of the airport; and
 
20    WHEREAS, A permanent control tower would make for safer

1landings at the airport, which has two intersecting runways; it
2would attract more commercial jets and increase the economic
3growth in the area; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6urge the United States Congress and President Donald J. Trump
7to provide federal funding for Lewis University Airport to
8construct an air traffic control tower, or be added to a
9federal pilot program allowing an air traffic control program;
10and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority
13Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck
14Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of
15Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members
16of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
