HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Jacksonville High School Winterguard on their accomplishments at regional and state competitions; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville High School Winterguard competed at five Illinois Drill Team Association (IDTA) regional competitions in the categories of AA Tall Flag and AA Lyrical Flag; their Tall Flag routine was undefeated, earned first place at all five regional competitions, and then qualified for State; their Lyrical Flag routine earned second place at one regional competition, first place at four regional competitions, and qualified for State multiple times; for the first time in Jacksonville High School history, both routines won the State Championship title at the State Finals; and

WHEREAS, The Lyrical Flag routine was performed to the acoustic version of the song "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten and focused on the story and the message of strength; each team member chose a cause to support and raise awareness for, including adoption, ALS, Alzheimer's Disease, anxiety disorder, asthma, autism, breast cancer, cerebral palsy, child abuse, childhood cancer, childhood disabilities, deafness, domestic violence, epilepsy, gun, violence, heart disease, leukemia, LGBT, mental illness, pancreatic cancer, PTSD, reproductive rights, safe driving, self harm, SIDS, substance abuse, suicide prevention, and Tourette's Syndrome; those causes were represented with ribbons sewn onto their uniforms; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville High School Winterguard is coached by Head Coach, Rachel Mansell; and Assistant Coaches, James Vannier and Jessica Vannier; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville High School Winterguard team members are Karson Baker, Alyssa Barrow, Abbi Blanford, Breanna Butler, Taylor Caldwell, Tanasia Clark, Kayla Critchelow, Emma Decker, Faith Hadlock, Summer Harris, Rissa Kroemelbein, Kira Morton-White, Serenity Norman, Jasmin Watson, and Piper Upchurch; and

WHEREAS, The Jacksonville High School Winterguard serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Jacksonville High School Winterguard on winning the State Championship title for both of their routines for the first time in the school's history; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Jacksonville High School.
