HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Douglas M. Grounds
4on the occasion of his retirement on June 30, 2017 after 36
5years of dedicated service as an administrative clerk for the
6Democratic leadership of the Illinois House of
7Representatives; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Douglas Grounds has faithfully served important
9roles behind the scenes to keep all legislators and staff well
10informed about pending legislation, including making all
11committee packets for House Democratic members; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Since March 1, 1981, Douglas Grounds has served
13under the leadership of Speakers William A. Redmond and Michael
14J. Madigan and House Democratic Leader Clyde L. Choate; the
15guidance of Chiefs of Staff Gary LaPaille and Tim Mapes; and
16the direction of Research and Appropriations Staff Directors
17Ralph Nickell, Bill Holland, and Veronica Lynch, and Issues
18Staff Directors Bill Filan, Jennifer Klendt, Eileen Mitchell,
19Michael Thompson, Will Cousineau, and Craig Willert; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Douglas Grounds is affectionately known as "Fast
21Doug" and "Doug-e-fresh"; he loves his customized, and award
22winning Ford Mustang (though not a manual transmission), and

1enjoys disc golf and beating pro athletes like EJ Hall; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Douglas Grounds is a dedicated and hard worker who
3only knows one speed - fast; he is always in the office early
4and would often start and finish labeling mailings before
5anyone else arrived; he would make the rounds to the different
6offices around the complex delivering or picking up what was
7needed, making many friends at each stop; he was always trying
8hard to reach the coveted goal of achieving the title:
9Administrative Clerk 5; he was an indispensable part of the
10workroom and mail programs; he is irreplaceable, and while we
11may get more workers, there is only one "Fast Doug"; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Douglas Grounds was responsible for keeping
13general workroom operations running smoothly; he did this by
14supporting staff in whatever way was needed; he prepared
15outgoing mail, loaded and unloaded mail and supplies from
16trucks and delivery vans, maintained office equipment and
17arranged for repairs if needed, and maintained inventory of
18office supplies and workroom cleanliness; he handled the
19copying, scanning, faxing, and shredding of documents and the
20sorting and delivering of incoming mail and interoffice
21correspondence; and he was trusted to drive the Speaker, the
22Speaker's family, and others when needed; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Douglas Grounds not only showed his dedication to

1the State by his faithful work at the Illinois Capitol, but
2also his dedication to his loves, his long-time girlfriend,
3Patty, and his daughters, Ashley Wofford, born on July 12,
41986, and Kaley Grounds, born August 13, 1993; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Doug Ground's hard work, integrity, and
6dedication to both the government and people of the State of
7Illinois will be fondly remembered by the members of this
8august body; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11congratulate Douglas M. Grounds on his retirement, thank him
12for his many years of dedicated service to the Illinois General
13Assembly and the people of the State of Illinois, and wish him
14many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Doug Grounds as a symbol of our respect and
17esteem.
