HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Father Daniel Francis Sullivan on the occasion of his retirement as an archdiocesan priest; and

WHEREAS, Father Sullivan was born in Chicago on October 31, 1931; he attended Visitation Catholic School, Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary, and earned his Master of Arts from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake; and

WHEREAS, Father Sullivan was ordained on May 3, 1957; he celebrated his First Solemn Mass at his home parish on May 5, 1957; and

WHEREAS, Father Sullivan served as Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Hubbard Woods from 1957 to 1966, Associate Pastor of Divine Infant Parish in Westchester from 1966 to 1970, Pastor of St. Mel Holy Ghost Parish in Chicago from 1970 to 1983, and Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Glenview from 1983 to 1989; he took a sabbatical for three months in 1989 to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana and then returned to being an Associate Pastor of St. Gilbert Catholic Parish in Grayslake from 1990 to 1992; he was an Associate Pastor and Resident Assistant at Saint Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights from 1992 to 2001 and Resident Assistant at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa from 2001 to 2016; and

WHEREAS, Father Sullivan retired from active ministry on November 24, 2001, but was committed to assisting with saying Masses at neighboring parishes, schools, and nursing homes around the Archdiocese; and

WHEREAS, From 2007 to 2009, Father Sullivan served the Archdiocese outside of a parish setting by becoming a Chaplain/Fr. Confessor; he joined the Mundelein Seminary staff and their students while they made several pilgrimages to the Holy Land; his assistance was paramount to many young men becoming future priests for the Archdiocese and for other Archdioceses countrywide learning from his vast knowledge and expertise; and

WHEREAS, In October of 2016, Father Sullivan became a full-time resident at the Bishop Timothy J. Lyne Residence for Retired Priests in Palos Park; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Father Daniel Francis Sullivan on his retirement as an archdiocesan priest and we wish him a happy and healthy retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Father Sullivan as an expression of our esteem and respect.
