HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Father Daniel Francis
4Sullivan on the occasion of his retirement as an archdiocesan
5priest; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Father Sullivan was born in Chicago on October 31,
71931; he attended Visitation Catholic School, Archbishop
8Quigley Preparatory Seminary, and earned his Master of Arts
9from the University of Saint Mary of the Lake; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Father Sullivan was ordained on May 3, 1957; he
11celebrated his First Solemn Mass at his home parish on May 5,
121957; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Father Sullivan served as Associate Pastor of
14Sacred Heart Parish in Hubbard Woods from 1957 to 1966,
15Associate Pastor of Divine Infant Parish in Westchester from
161966 to 1970, Pastor of St. Mel Holy Ghost Parish in Chicago
17from 1970 to 1983, and Associate Pastor of Our Lady of
18Perpetual Help Parish in Glenview from 1983 to 1989; he took a
19sabbatical for three months in 1989 to the University of Notre
20Dame in South Bend, Indiana and then returned to being an
21Associate Pastor of St. Gilbert Catholic Parish in Grayslake
22from 1990 to 1992; he was an Associate Pastor and Resident

1Assistant at Saint Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights
2from 1992 to 2001 and Resident Assistant at Prince of Peace
3Catholic Church in Lake Villa from 2001 to 2016; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Father Sullivan retired from active ministry on
5November 24, 2001, but was committed to assisting with saying
6Masses at neighboring parishes, schools, and nursing homes
7around the Archdiocese; and
 
8    WHEREAS, From 2007 to 2009, Father Sullivan served the
9Archdiocese outside of a parish setting by becoming a
10Chaplain/Fr. Confessor; he joined the Mundelein Seminary staff
11and their students while they made several pilgrimages to the
12Holy Land; his assistance was paramount to many young men
13becoming future priests for the Archdiocese and for other
14Archdioceses countrywide learning from his vast knowledge and
15expertise; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In October of 2016, Father Sullivan became a
17full-time resident at the Bishop Timothy J. Lyne Residence for
18Retired Priests in Palos Park; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21congratulate Father Daniel Francis Sullivan on his retirement
22as an archdiocesan priest and we wish him a happy and healthy

1retirement; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to Father Sullivan as an expression of our esteem and
4respect.
