HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives would like
3to recognize Greenville College on the occasion of its 125th
4anniversary; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Greenville College was purchased in 1891 by the
6Free Methodists of Central Illinois and they selected their
7first president, Wilson T. Hogue, in 1892; it opened in 1892
8and has been educating students ever since; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Wilson T. Hogue's sound grasp of Christian
10culture, clear definition of policy, and skillful
11administration has left such a mark that later, one observer
12proclaimed, "Greenville College stands as a living monument of
13Wilson T. Hogue"; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Eleven presidents have since guided the education
15of students to obtain lives of character and service by
16integrating faith with learning; in time, the campus grew to
17include 50 acres with spaces that facilitate learning,
18computing, performance and practice, art exhibition,
19athletics, science, and research; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Greenville College has provided education for
21students from almost every state as well as 30 different

1countries and every inhabited continent; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Greenville College is home to 17 different varsity
3sports teams and three club teams with outstanding
4accomplishments over the past 20 years, including 45 conference
5championships, 11 national championships, four NCAA Division
6III national championship athletes, and two victory bowl
7championships; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Greenville College is an outstanding academic
9institution; it was ranked as the top online school in Illinois
10in 2016 and offers over 50 majors; and
 
11    WHEREAS, On September 20, 2017, Greenville College will
12celebrate its new identity as Greenville University;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
15HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16recognize Greenville College on all of its accomplishment over
17the last 125 years and we wish the school many more years of
18success; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That we wish Greenville College all the best as
20it embarks on a new future as Greenville University; and be it
21further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to Greenville College as a symbol of our respect and
3esteem.
