HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives would like to recognize Greenville College on the occasion of its 125th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Greenville College was purchased in 1891 by the Free Methodists of Central Illinois and they selected their first president, Wilson T. Hogue, in 1892; it opened in 1892 and has been educating students ever since; and

WHEREAS, Wilson T. Hogue's sound grasp of Christian culture, clear definition of policy, and skillful administration has left such a mark that later, one observer proclaimed, "Greenville College stands as a living monument of Wilson T. Hogue"; and

WHEREAS, Eleven presidents have since guided the education of students to obtain lives of character and service by integrating faith with learning; in time, the campus grew to include 50 acres with spaces that facilitate learning, computing, performance and practice, art exhibition, athletics, science, and research; and

WHEREAS, Greenville College has provided education for students from almost every state as well as 30 different countries and every inhabited continent; and

WHEREAS, Greenville College is home to 17 different varsity sports teams and three club teams with outstanding accomplishments over the past 20 years, including 45 conference championships, 11 national championships, four NCAA Division III national championship athletes, and two victory bowl championships; and

WHEREAS, Greenville College is an outstanding academic institution; it was ranked as the top online school in Illinois in 2016 and offers over 50 majors; and

WHEREAS, On September 20, 2017, Greenville College will celebrate its new identity as Greenville University; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Greenville College on all of its accomplishment over the last 125 years and we wish the school many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we wish Greenville College all the best as it embarks on a new future as Greenville University; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Greenville College as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
