HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the residents of Bond
4County on the 200th anniversary of the county's founding; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bond County was formed on January 4, 1817 by an
6act of the Illinois Territorial Legislature; this event
7occurred nearly two years before Illinois was admitted into the
8union as the 21st state; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The initial dimensions of Bond County were unique;
10it was only 24 miles wide but stretched over 600 miles north to
11include a portion of Michigan's Upper Peninsula; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The county got its name from Shadrach Bond who had
13been an United States Army Colonel in the War of 1812 and the
14first Governor of Illinois; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Over time, Bond County was divided up to create
16numerous other counties in the State, and ceded some of its
17land to Wisconsin and Michigan; today, Bond County is one of
18the smaller counties in Illinois, yet its rich history, along
19with the spirit and pride of its people, has outlasted all of
20these changes; and

1    WHEREAS, Residents of Bond County began celebrating their
2county's bicentennial on January 5, 2017, and will hold their
3main celebration on July 2, 2017; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
5HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6congratulate the residents of Bond County on the 200th
7anniversary of the county's founding, and we wish them many
8more wonderful years; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Bond County Board Chairman Howard Elmore.
