HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Dr. Sherry Eagle on the
4occasion of her retirement as Executive Director of the
5Institute for Collaboration at Aurora University; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle began her career in education as
7a third-grade teacher at Caroline Sibley Elementary School in
8Calumet City; she spent 10 years as a reading specialist at
9Thornwood High School in South Holland before her transition to
10Aurora schools; during her time with Aurora West School
11District 129 she served as the Assistant Principal for
12Curriculum and Special Education, the Assistant Superintendent
13for Curriculum, and then 12 years as Superintendent of Schools;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle became the Executive Director of
16the Institute for Collaboration at Aurora University in 2005;
17as Executive Director she has successfully lead the
18establishment of numerous far-reaching partnerships and
19collaborations across the greater Aurora community that have
20resulted in the development of community-wide programs
21designed to meet critical needs of children in Aurora; she
22collaborated in the development of partnerships between the
23corporate, not for profit, governmental, and education sectors

1in the Fox River Valley; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has been instrumental in
3implementing numerous programs which are producing significant
4results including the Mathematics and Science Education Center
5of Aurora University, that has created an alternative model for
6STEM education that includes the nationally acclaimed John C.
7Dunham STEM Partnership School, that serves third through
8eighth-graders and teachers from four Aurora school districts;
9the community-wide MyTime After School Program, that serves
10over 1,000 elementary and middle school students throughout
11Aurora; and the Healthy Living Council, a group of community
12leaders organized through the Institute that has offered
13city-wide programs to reduce childhood obesity through
14programs promoting wellness and health with the goal of making
15Kane County residents the healthiest in the State by 2020; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle excelled in her studies at the
17University of Illinois-Chicago; she earned her Bachelor of Arts
18in Elementary Education in 1970, her Master of Studies in
19Reading Education and Curriculum Development in 1974, and her
20Certificate of Advanced Study in 1994, all with honors; she
21completed her Doctor of Education with Honors from Northern
22Illinois University in 1994; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has been recognized for her

1excellence in leadership throughout her career; during her
2tenure as Executive Director she received the 2006 University
3of Illinois Alumni Achievement Award, the 2005 Aurora Public
4Library Foundation Light of Learning Award, and the 2005 Quad
5County Urban League Award for Community Leadership; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has served on numerous boards and
7commissions throughout her career; she currently serves as a
8member of the Communities in Schools Board of Aurora, a member
9of the Rush Copley/Fox Valley Heart Foundation Board, the
10Energizing Student Potential Advisory Board (NEED
11Project/Excelon Foundation, as a member of the Board of
12Trustees of Northeastern Illinois University; and as a member
13of the Illinois Board of Higher Education; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Sherry Eagle has been published four times in
15peer-reviewed publications; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18congratulate Dr. Sherry Eagle on the occasion of her retirement
19as Executive Director of the Institute for Collaboration at
20Aurora University, and thank her for her career dedicated to
21the education of students in Illinois, and wish her a healthy
22and happy retirement; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to Dr. Sherry Eagle as an expression of our esteem
3and respect.
