HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Suzan Nash on her
4retirement from Community Action after 38 years of service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Suzan Nash started with the Western Illinois
6Regional Council as an intern in 1978 and has dedicated her
7life to fighting the war on poverty and meeting the needs of
8the less fortunate; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Suzan Nash became the first female director of a
10regional planning agency in Illinois in 1981 when she assumed
11the leadership of the Western Illinois Regional Council; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Suzan Nash established the Western Illinois
13Regional Council as a Community Action Agency in 1982; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Suzan Nash, the Western
15Illinois Regional Council established the Victim Services
16Program, providing free and confidential services in a safe
17environment for survivors of domestic violence and sexual
18assault in Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, and Warren Counties;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Suzan Nash has served on the boards of the

1Illinois Association of Regional Councils and the National
2Association of Development Organizations Midwest Region; she
3served on the Board of the Illinois Association of Community
4Action Agencies for over 10 years, most recently serving as
5vice-chair; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Suzan Nash has been an active member of her
7community; she served as a Radio Information Services reader, a
8Youth Assistance Program founding board member, a Quality of
9Life committee member, YMCA president and board member, a
10McDonough County United Way volunteer and campaign chair, and
11as the finance chair at St. Paul Parish; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Suzan Nash has received the Macomb Feminists
13Network "Writing Women into History Award", and the Western
14Illinois University Department of Parks, Recreation and
15Tourism Distinguished Alumni Award in 1990; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18congratulate Suzan Nash on her retirement from Community Action
19after 38 years of service and we wish her well in her
20retirement and with all future endeavors; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to Suzan Nash as an expression of our esteem and
