HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jim Mamer of East Peoria, who passed away on November 28, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Jim Mamer was born in Mt. Vernon to James C. and Doris Stevens Mamer on August 11, 1947; he graduated from Streator High School in 1965 and from Midstate College; he attended the Illinois Bankers School of Southern Illinois University and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in Madison; he served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Gurke; he married Lynn Ferguson at St. Stephen Church in Streator on May 4, 1968; and

WHEREAS, Jim Mamer was President and CO-CEO of Morton Community Bank; and

WHEREAS, Jim Mamer loved East Peoria and was instrumental in the success of several major projects, including the development of the city's new downtown, the Eastside Center, the Par-A-Dice casino, the East Peoria Festival of Lights, Leisure Acres, the East Peoria Civic Plaza, and the Jaycee fireworks show; and

WHEREAS, Jim Mamer was an active volunteer and served his community in many ways, including as a member of the OSF Healthcare Foundation Board, the Rotary Club, and the East Peoria Community Foundation; he was a charter member and former President of the Kiwanis; he was also a member of the Jaycees and the East Peoria Chamber of Commerce; he was a Fondulac Park District Commissioner and served as Treasurer for several school districts; he was recognized for his efforts in founding the Fondulac Banking Center and was a named the 1983 Business Person of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Jim Mamer's exceptional service to his community inspired a new Chamber of Commerce annual award, beginning in the year 2017 and given to a member of the community who also reflects Jim Mamer's qualities of public service, both personally and professionally; and

WHEREAS, Jim Mamer was a proud grandfather and loved attending the extracurricular activities of his grandchildren; he was a member of Saint Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Jim Mamer was survived by his wife, Lynn; his sons, Michael (Lisa) and Matthew (Heidi) Mamer; his grandchildren, Makayla, Hunter, Kyah, Peyton, and Logan Mamer; his sister, Diane (Alan) Bressner; his brother, Steven (Pam) Mamer; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Cindy (Steve) Franciska, and Mark (Patty) Ferguson; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Jim Mamer, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Mamer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
