HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Teresa Rendon Gonzalez, of Ixcamilpa de Guerrero, Puebla, Mexico, who passed away on March 13, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez was born on May 19, 1929 and raised in Ixcamilpa de Guerrero, Puebla, Mexico; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez married Crisologo Torres Escamilla and had 11 children, Antonio Torres, Celia Torres, Pedro Torres, Tomas Torres, Domitila Torres, Manuel Torres, Fulgencio Torres, Leoncio Torres, Alvaro Torres, Reyna Torres, and Crisologo Torres; and

WHEREAS, All of Teresa Gonzalez's children immigrated to the State of Illinois, where they have settled to live and work and contribute to the rich development and culture of the City of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez had a humble life, where she raised chickens, pigs, turkeys, and other farm animals; she was respected, valued, and loved by all those who knew her in her community; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez was the matriarch of the family, an independent person who would perform any task and inspired her family to follow her example; she loved her family with a gentle, yet stern consistency which only she possessed; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Teresa Gonzalez, a community leader and matriarch of the Torres family, has caused a deep void and sadness in her community; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez suffered much physical pain yet she lived her life with grace; she touched many lives with her examples of love, acceptance, and immense pride as a Mexican woman; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez left a strong legacy for the State of Illinois with 37 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; the majority of whom live and work in the Land of Lincoln; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez was much loved and respected by her family and friends, both in the United States and around the world; and

WHEREAS, Teresa Gonzalez's true legacy lies in the profound effect she had on the countless men and women she raised and taught throughout her life; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the memory of Teresa Rendon Gonzalez and celebrate her living legacy; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Teresa Gonzalez as a symbol of our deepest sympathy.
