HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Gail Ann Briggs on the
4occasion of her retirement from the McLean County School
5District #5 Board after 41 years of service; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gail Briggs first joined the McLean County School
7District #5 Citizens Advisory Council; she ran for election to
8the McLean County School District Board in 1976 and became the
9first woman board member in 17 years; she was re-elected 10
10more times; she has served as the Board's Secretary, as
11Vice-President, and as President; she is one of the top-four,
12longest-serving school board members in the State of Illinois;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gail Briggs is known for her passion and love of
15children, her institutional and historical knowledge, and her
16mentorship of many board members, administrators, staff, and
17teachers; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Gail Briggs has served in several volunteer
19capacities with the Illinois Association of School Boards; she
20was honored by the Illinois State Board of Education with the
21"Those Who Excel" Award of Excellence in 1981; and

1    WHEREAS, Gail Briggs moved to Central Illinois in 1968; she
2and her husband, Robert, have two children and four
3grandchildren; she worked as a nurse and a homemaker; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Gail Briggs plans to enjoy spending time with her
5husband, her children, and her grandchildren; she will also
6continue to organize and maintain the history of McLean County
7School District #5; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10congratulate Gail Ann Briggs on her retirement from the McLean
11County School District #5 Board after 41 years of service, and
12we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Gail Briggs as an expression of our esteem and
16respect.
