HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Gail Ann Briggs on the occasion of her retirement from the McLean County School District #5 Board after 41 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Gail Briggs first joined the McLean County School District #5 Citizens Advisory Council; she ran for election to the McLean County School District Board in 1976 and became the first woman board member in 17 years; she was re-elected 10 more times; she has served as the Board's Secretary, as Vice-President, and as President; she is one of the top-four, longest-serving school board members in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Gail Briggs is known for her passion and love of children, her institutional and historical knowledge, and her mentorship of many board members, administrators, staff, and teachers; and

WHEREAS, Gail Briggs has served in several volunteer capacities with the Illinois Association of School Boards; she was honored by the Illinois State Board of Education with the "Those Who Excel" Award of Excellence in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Gail Briggs moved to Central Illinois in 1968; she and her husband, Robert, have two children and four grandchildren; she worked as a nurse and a homemaker; and

WHEREAS, Gail Briggs plans to enjoy spending time with her husband, her children, and her grandchildren; she will also continue to organize and maintain the history of McLean County School District #5; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Gail Ann Briggs on her retirement from the McLean County School District #5 Board after 41 years of service, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Gail Briggs as an expression of our esteem and respect.
