HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, TRICARE is a health care program that provides civilian health benefits for United States Armed Forces military personnel, military retirees, and their dependents; and

WHEREAS, A large number of TRICARE facilities are owned by private companies, including several in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Multiple privately-owned facilities are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Office of the Executive Inspector General for alleged billing fraud and potentially unethical practices; and

WHEREAS, Some of the violations committed were so severe that the facilities faced expulsion from Medicare and Medicaid Programs; and

WHEREAS, It is alleged that patients were held against their will so that the company could make more money; and

WHEREAS, Senators from both political parties have spoken about the need to end these practices and put the safety of patients first; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the federal government to continue its investigation into these TRICARE facilities; and be it further

RESOLVED, That if a company is found guilty of breaking any laws that they should face the fullest punishment allowable; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to the U.S. Department of Justice.
