HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives recognize township government is the oldest
4existing unit of government in the United States; it was first
5established in Providence, Rhode Island in 1636 and in Illinois
6in 1850 with the creation of Ela Township; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Eighty-Five of the 102 counties in Illinois
8operate under the township form of government; townships serve
9more than eight million citizens; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Ela Township serves over 40,000 residents in Lake
11County; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Ela Township has provided vital programs and
13services to its residents; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ela Township provides services for seniors,
15youth, and disabled individuals, general assistance, cemetery
16maintenance, park maintenance, bussing, property assessments,
17road maintenance, and counseling; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ela Township has been recognized on several
19occasions, most recently by receiving the Association of
20Illinois Senior Centers highest honor, the "Mind, Body and

1Spirit" award, for its "55 Plus" program; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4thank Ela Township for its service to its residents and we
5recognize September 21, 2017 as Township Day in Ela Township;
6and be it further
 
7    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
8presented to the residents of Ela Township as an expression of
9our esteem and respect.
