HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize James Mathew of Hinsdale on being selected as one of the top youth volunteers in Illinois for 2017; and

WHEREAS, James Mathew was selected as part of the 22nd annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards; and

WHEREAS, James Mathew is a senior at Hinsdale Central High School; he is the co-creator of "Got Food?", a mobile app designed to fight food insecurity by helping people in need, and those who serve them, locate nearby food pantries and other resources in 14 states; he is a junior director of development at his local food pantry, and was inspired to create the app after learning how many clients were struggling to connect with food charities because they did not know the hours and locations; and

WHEREAS, The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards represents the largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteer service in the United States; all public and private middle schools and high schools in the country, as well as all Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, American Red Cross chapters, YMCAs, and HandsOn Network affiliates, were eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, Students like James Mathew represent the best of America's youth and are role models to their peers and communities; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize James Mathew on being selected as one of the top youth volunteers in Illinois for 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James Mathew as an expression of our esteem and respect.
