HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Maine South High School varsity dance team, the Hawkettes, on winning the 2017 Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Dance Team Championship for high kick; and

WHEREAS, The UDA National Dance Team Championship took place at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida from February 3, 2017 through February 5, 2017; 34 teams competed in this annual competition; and

WHEREAS, The Maine South Hawkettes are one of the top dance teams in the State; they also won the national high kick championship in 2011, and finished second in nationals in high kick in 2016 and 2015; in addition to national championships the Hawkettes won the inaugural IHSA dance State championship in 2013; they won the pre-IHSA state titles an amazing 21 times between 1979 and 2012; and

WHEREAS, The Maine South Hawkettes also finished sixth in large varsity poms; and

WHEREAS, The Hawkettes are Isabelle Austriaco, Jacqueline Beck, Meghan Breslin, Abby Dietlin, Maya Filipczak, Maggie Fortune, Bonnie Harris, Maggie Harris, Stephanie Kolar, Nicole Koziol, Hannah Kreger, Lexi Leongas, Daryna Liubchyk, Catherine Martin, Erin Martin, Kathryn Mauery, Kathleen McGuire, Kamryn McKenzie, Grace Mountain, Linnea Orr, Phoebe Slocum, Sophia Stefaniuk, Cole Steger, Megan Streightiff, Katie Thavis, Natalia Tyszka, Grace Wambach, and Bridget Yagihashi; and

WHEREAS, The Hawkettes are coached by Jackie Graney with help from assistant coaches, Kate Bashir and Casey Gibbons; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Maine South High School varsity dance team, the Hawkettes, on winning the Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Dance Team Championship for high kick, and that we recognize their hard work, dedication to excellence, and proud representation of their school and the State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Graney as a symbol of our esteem and respect for a job well done.
