HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Newark High School volleyball team, the Lady Norsemen, on winning the 2018 Illinois High School Association Class 1A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Norsemen defeated Hartsburg High School in the championship game on November 10, 2018 at Redbird Arena in Normal in two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-23; and

WHEREAS, This historic season marks Newark's first ever state championship win, and the team's 40 and 2 record is the best season record for any sport in the school's history; and

WHEREAS, In addition to their athletic successes, the team is devoted to their academic success, boasting an overall GPA of 3.85; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Norsemen are led by Head Coach Tonya Grayson, who has coached at Newark for 18 seasons; the state final game was her 463rd win; the assistant coaches are Samantha Anderson and PJ McKinney; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Norsemen are Evelyn Martin, Kenna Borton, Lex Lohrey, Mattie Chapman, Cassidy Adams, Olivia Nelson, Morgan Richards, Naomi Sweeney, Megan Williams, Taylor Christian, Meggie Scott, Alyssa Gittins, Madi Malone, Miraya Smith, and Lexi Long; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Newark High School volleyball team, the Lady Norsemen, on winning the 2018 Illinois High School Association Class lA State Championship, and we admire their dedication and wish them many more years of success; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the Lady Norsemen as an expression of our respect and esteem.
