HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the 155th anniversary of the
4founding of the Original Providence Baptist Church in Chicago;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, The church began in 1863 with the hopes and dreams
7of a few fugitives slaves that had made their way to Chicago by
8way of the Underground Railroad; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Within a few years, church membership had grown to
10nearly 300 and money was raised to build their first church
11building; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The church moved to various locations over the
13years, and in 1972, settled in its present location on North
14Pine Avenue; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The church stands as a monument to the cause of
16Christians in the immediate community and in the City of
17Chicago; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20recognize the 155th anniversary of the founding of the Original

1Providence Baptist Church, and wish them many more wonderful
2years; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the Original Providence Baptist Church as a symbol
5of our respect and esteem.
