HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Corporal Donald W. Bollman was born in Cook County
7to Max and Harriet Bollman on Christmas Eve 1944; he was the
8beloved brother of Harold, Richard, JoAnn, Norman, James, and
9Carol Ann; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Cpl. Bollman was a resident of Norridge his entire
11life; he attended James Giles Elementary School and Ridgewood
12High School; while growing up, he enjoyed playing sports,
13especially football and baseball, but his greatest love was
14roller skating; due to his outgoing personality and great sense
15of humor, he acquired many friends; he always went out of his
16way to help anyone who was in need; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Cpl. Bollman enlisted in the United States Marine
18Corps in 1965; he served in California as a Marine Guard before
19beginning his tour in South Vietnam; and
 
20    WHEREAS, While serving in South Vietnam with the 3rd
21Battalion, 3rd Marines, India Company, Cpl. Bollman's company

1came under heavy attack from a North Vietnamese Army battalion;
2he was killed in action on March 1, 1967 at the young age of 23;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, For his heroic actions in the face of the enemy,
5Cpl. Bollman received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with a V
6for Valor; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
9CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the bridge on Illinois
10Route 19 (Irving Park Road) that runs over the Des Plaines
11River in Schiller Park as the "Corporal Donald W. Bollman
12Bridge"; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
14is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
15State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
16giving notice of the name the "Corporal Donald W. Bollman
17Bridge"; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Cpl. Bollman, Norridge Village
20President James Chmura, and the Secretary of the Illinois
21Department of Transportation.
