| 2 | | WHEREAS, The massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in | 3 | | Pittsburgh shocked the world; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, A peaceful sabbath service turned into a massacre | 5 | | of Jewish life; families were gathered for weekly Shabbat | 6 | | prayer and to
welcome a child into the Jewish community when an | 7 | | armed intruder opened fire inside the synagogue with an assault | 8 | | rifle, slaughtering 11 Jewish
congregants and wounding six | 9 | | brave law enforcement officers; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, The Jewish Caucus of the Illinois Legislature | 11 | | condemns this anti-Semitic act and will continue to fight | 12 | | against the hatred and violence directed at their community; | 13 | | and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, This is not only a Jewish issue; it also affects | 15 | | the African-American, Latino, LGBTQ, Muslim, and immigrant
| 16 | | communities, and everyone who has been the victim of white | 17 | | nationalist violence; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Children must know that evil begets evil, and that | 19 | | violence begets violence; therefore, be it

| 1 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE | 2 | | CONCURRING HEREIN, that we stand in solidarity with the Jewish | 3 | | community in Pittsburgh, and we condemn these acts of terror, | 4 | | whether they take place in a house of worship in Pittsburgh, a | 5 | | parking lot in Kentucky, a nightclub, a
schoolyard, or a | 6 | | playground; and be it further | 7 | | RESOLVED, That we must seek to
build a safe and inclusive | 8 | | community, we must reject terrorism in all its forms, and we | 9 | | must pass laws to protect our communities from
violence and | 10 | | fear; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the Tree of Life Synagogue as a symbol of our | 13 | | solidarity.
