AN ACT concerning education.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections 10-20.60 and 34-18.53 as follows:

(105 ILCS 5/10-20.60 new)

Sec. 10-20.60. Multiple child placement. Each school board shall develop a policy for determining the classroom placement of children from the same family in the same grade at school. The policy shall state that determining placement of children of the same grade from the same family shall be handled on a case-by-case basis by the school, and the school shall involve both teachers and parents or legal guardians in the determination of class placement. The policy shall also make the parent's or legal guardian's preference on placement a determinative factor.

Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon becoming law.
