| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Merle S. Miller, who passed away on | 4 | | December 13, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Merle Miller was born on January 18, 1932 in | 6 | | Clinton; his parents were Carl S. and Esther (nee Turner) | 7 | | Miller; he married Helen Wagner on December 12, 1959 in | 8 | | Clinton; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Merle Miller served his country as an officer in | 10 | | the United States Navy in San Diego after graduating from the | 11 | | University of Illinois in 1955; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Merle Miller farmed and raised purebred | 13 | | registered Angus cattle for 55 years; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Merle Miller was a member of the First Christian | 15 | | Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the | 16 | | Clinton Country Club, the Benevolent and Protective Order of | 17 | | Elks, the DeWitt Masonic Lodge, the Bloomington Consistory, the | 18 | | Ansar Shriners in Springfield, the Agricultural Stabilization | 19 | | and Conservation Service Board, the American Angus | 20 | | Association, the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, the Alpha Gamma | 21 | | Rho Fraternity; he was a Clintonia Township Trustee, a past |

| 1 | | President of the DeWitt County Elevator, a past President of | 2 | | the DeWitt County Farm Bureau, and Director of the Division of | 3 | | County Fairs and Horse Racing for the State of Illinois from | 4 | | 1984 to 1991; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Merle Miller was preceded in death by his parents; | 6 | | and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Merle Miller is survived by his wife, Helen | 8 | | Miller; 3 sons, Brett (Jill) Miller, Bart (Margery) Miller, and | 9 | | Brad (Janeen) Miller; 4 grandchildren, Brianna, Ryan, Ashley, | 10 | | and Grace; and a sister, Margorie Anderson; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 13 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Merle S. Miller; and | 14 | | be it further
