SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard J. Georgantas, who passed away on August 20, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Richard Georgantas was a proud graduate of Joliet Catholic High School's Class of 1954; and

WHEREAS, Richard Georgantas served his country as a member of the United States Army in the late 1950s, having been stationed in Frankfurt, Germany; and

WHEREAS, Richard Georgantas retired from the Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont after over 28 years of service; he worked for Reynolds Aluminum for 12 1/2 years, bartended at The Keg for 9 years, worked for Cornerstone Services for 5 years, served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Medical Center, and worked at the Joliet Park District, where he drove the Zamboni; he was also a long-time usher for the 4 PM Mass at St. Mary Nativity and served as a co-chair of Jubilation in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Richard Georgantas enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, golfing, and playing Scrabble, dominoes, and canasta with his family and friends; he also enjoyed taking vacations to Siesta Key with his daughter and her family and some very close friends and taking casino road trips with his gambling buddy, Dee; and

WHEREAS, Richard Georgantas was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret (Palmer) and Anthony Georgantas; 4 brothers, Robert (Gloria), George (Georgetta), Clarence "Teak" (Theresa), and Donald; a sister, Betty Bick; a brother-in-law, Richard Boban; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, George and Olga Boban; and

WHEREAS, Richard Georgantas is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy (nee Boban); a daughter, Sue (Jim) Gulas; 2 grandchildren, Jenny and Nick Gulas; 2 sisters, Lorraine (Dave, deceased) A'Hearn and Connie A'Hearn; a brother-in-law, George F. (Carol) Boban; his favorite card playing sister-in-law, Christine Boban; his many nieces and nephews; and a few choice "outsiders"; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Richard J. Georgantas; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Georgantas as an expression of our sympathy.
