SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of former State Senator Claude U. "Bud"
4Stone, Jr. of Morton, who passed away on December 29, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was born on April 30, 1926 in Peoria;
6his parents were Claude U. and Alma Marie (nee Poppen) Stone;
7he married Mary L. Thomas on March 14, 1953 in Roanoke; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone attended White Grade School and Peoria
9High School and received his bachelor's degrees from Cornell
10University and Bradley University; he subsequently received
11his master's degree in business administration from Stanford
12University; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 33
14years until his retirement in 1985, holding management
15positions in pricing, advertising, sales development, and
16marketing, all within the Engine Division; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone served as an Illinois State Senator in
18the 92nd General Assembly, representing the 45th Senate
19District; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was actively involved in many

1organizations and committees; he was a Republican precinct
2committeeman since 1956 in Peoria and Tazewell counties; he was
3active with Illinois young-Republican organizations and the
4Republican Party; he also served as Assistant Secretary of the
5Peoria County Republican Party, as Vice-President of the City
6of Peoria Republican Party, and as Chairman of the Tazewell
7County Republican Central Committee; in 1996, he shared the
8Tazewell County GOP Man of the Year award; he was a member of
9the Morton Planning Commission for 30 years and he was a
10founding and 26-year member of the Land Use Advisory Committee
11for the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission; prior to his
12service to Morton, he served on the Peoria Planning and Zoning
13Commission; his greatest length of tenure was being a member of
14the Illinois State Archaeological Society for over 62 years;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone was preceded in death by his wife,
17Mary, and his sister, Sheila Day; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sen. Stone is survived by 2 daughters, Sandra E.
19(James) Ludwig and Karen M. (Michael) McEntire; a son, Thomas
20L. Stone; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a
21stepsister, Joann Feucht; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
23ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his

1family and friends, mourn the passing of former State Senator
2Claude U. "Bud" Stone, Jr.; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Sen. Stone as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
