SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mike Spellman, who passed away on January 20, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Mike Spellman attended St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, where he played football and baseball, earning a Most Valuable Player award as a standout catcher; and

WHEREAS, Mike Spellman wrote for the Daily Herald for 23 years; his column, "Spellman's Scorecard", and his expertise on a variety of sports topics made him a reader favorite; he began as a freelance writer of youth sports in 1990 and joined the Daily Herald full-time in 1991; he worked his way up from covering Little League games to covering the PGA majors; most recently, he worked the Chicago Blackhawks beat; and

WHEREAS, Mike Spellman enjoyed playing golf and still played with his friends from high school; and

WHEREAS, Mike Spellman is survived by his mother; his 2 older sisters; his older brother; and his younger sister; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mike Spellman, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mike Spellman as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
