SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Thomas Daniel "V" Vehring, who passed away on June 13, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring was born in Bemidji, Minnesota on April 30, 1941; he spent his formative years in Virginia, Minnesota, where he developed his zest for golf by sneaking over the wall surrounding the Virginia Municipal Golf Course across the street from his house; once caught by the golf pro, he was given a $5 season pass in return for a promise to play the 18 holes in order and to quit sneaking over the wall; by the time he graduated from Virginia High School, he was a formidable amateur and had played in many tournaments; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring graduated from Minnesota State University at Mankato in 1964 and headed for Chicago and a lifetime built around golf; he worked as a golf professional at Olympia Fields Country Club and in sales for both the Arnold Palmer Golf and the Ben Hogan Golf Companies; and

WHEREAS, In the early 1980s, Thomas Vehring went to McHenry to help promote the metalwood; this collaboration with fellow salesman, Gary Adams, eventually grew into TaylorMade Golf; ever ready with "Tips from Tom", he frequently gave advice peppered with phrases like "feather cuts" and "what-a-pities"; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring was preceded in death by his grandson, Nicholas Vehring, and his sisters, Joanne Nigro and Kathryn Doe; and

WHEREAS, Thomas Vehring is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathleen (Kinn); his sons, Ross (Rita) Vehring and Christopher (Denise) Vehring; his daughter, Tracy (Scott) Botten; his grandchildren, Michael Vehring, Veronica and Alexander Vehring, and Lilya and Ava Botten; and his siblings, Mary Sue (David) Tarkowski and Jon (Kristen) Vehring; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Thomas Daniel "V" Vehring, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thomas Vehring as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
