SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Eleanor N. Goodman, who passed away on June 29, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was born on August 9, 1920 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky; her parents were Leo Jay and Frieda Silberstein Newman; she married Marvin Leon Goodman on July 13, 1941 in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman moved with her parents to Peoria when she was a young child; she was a graduate of Peoria High School and attended the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was a community leader who worked with several charities and non-profit organizations; she was president of the Kickapoo Council of the Girl Scouts and helped establish and build one of the region's first Girl Scout camps, Camp Tapawingo; she was active in B'nai Brith in Peoria and served on the auxiliaries of Peoria's hospitals; she and her husband also established a private family foundation from which they helped fund many activities behind the scenes, including the distribution of the polio vaccine to local children and college scholarships to students who could not otherwise afford to go to college; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman and her husband were strong supporters of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which was established by her daughter, Nancy Goodman Brinker, in honor of Mrs. Brinker's sister, who died of breast cancer in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents; and a daughter, Susan G. Komen; and

WHEREAS, Eleanor Goodman is survived by her daughter, Nancy G. Brinker; 3 grandchildren, Eric B. Brinker, Scott M. (Marnie) Komen, and Stephanie L. Komen; and 2 great-grandchildren, Susan Madeline and Abigail Brooke Komen; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Eleanor N. Goodman; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eleanor Goodman as an expression of our sympathy.
