SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Howard J. Cotton of Bloomington, who
4passed away on March 3, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was born on June 4, 1932 in
6Heyworth; his parents were John D. and Nellie D. Lee Cotton; he
7married Mary Catherine Lenegar on October 20, 1956 in
8Bloomington; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton served as a member of the United
10States Army during the Korean War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was a graduate of Heyworth High
12School; he was an electrician by trade and a member of
13International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 197 in
14Bloomington; he retired from the Town of Normal in 1995 after
1518 years as an electrical inspector; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was a member of the Historic St.
17Patrick's Catholic Church and the church's Altar and Rosary
18Society; he also volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was a 4th Degree Knight and past
20Grand Knight of the Fr. John D. Ring Knights of Columbus

1Council 574 in Bloomington; he was also a member of American
2Legion Post 56 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 454 in
3Bloomington; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs,
5Chicago Bears, and Notre Dame; he also enjoyed golfing and
6bowling; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton was preceded in death by his wife,
8Mary Catherine; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Howard Cotton is survived by 4 daughters, Kimberly
10(Curt) Smith, Diane Siron, Julia (Edgar) Duvall, and Mary D.
11Cotton; 2 sons, Pat Cotton and David (Karin) Cotton; 7
12grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and his special friend
13and companion of 7 years, Connie Wheeler; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
16family and friends, mourn the passing of Howard J. Cotton; and
17be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Howard Cotton as an expression of
20our sympathy.
