SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Hattie Pearl Bradford, who passed away on May 6, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Bradford was born on April 1, 1937 in Ullin; her parents were Antonio Meals and Bessie Meals Thorpe; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Bradford received her education at West Side Elementary School in Ullin and Walls Night School in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Bradford was a natural homemaker who enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and friends, and politics; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Bradford received Christ at a young age; she was baptized at Bell Chapel Church in Ullin; after moving to Chicago, she joined First Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago; she later joined Proviso Baptist Church in Maywood, where she served faithfully for over 30 years until her illness; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Bradford was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Harry, Josephine, Wayne, Pauline, Justine, Cleora, Ida, Robert and Mary; her first husband, Alonzo Travis; and her second husband, Volney Bradford; and

WHEREAS, Hattie Bradford is survived by 5 children, Jacqueline, Alonzo, Jr. (Jackie), Anthony, Victoria, and Ernie; 10 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles A. Rodger (Pricilla); 2 sisters, Glodean E. Jackson and Mildred L. Skinner (Charlie); a brother-in-law, Leandrew Bradford; 3 sister-in-laws, Viola Clark, Irean Bradford, and Varlean Bradford; a special niece, Toniette L. Rogers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Hattie Pearl Bradford; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Hattie Bradford as an expression of our sympathy.
