SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rev. Howard Nichols, Sr. of Chicago, who passed away on March 22, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Nichols, Sr. was born in Canton, Mississippi on August 17, 1936 to Walter and Rosie Nichols; he received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Roosevelt University; he married Ruth E. Hudson in 1955; and

WHEREAS, In 1954, Rev. Nichols, Sr. joined Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church; he preached his first sermon there in 1968 and became head pastor in 1989; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Nichols, Sr. is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children, Debra, Shari (Curtis, Sr.), Krista (Greg), Marva (Thomas), and Howard, Jr.; and a host of grandchildren, other family, friends, and the congregation of Pleasant Gift MB Church; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rev. Howard Nichols, Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rev. Nichols, Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
