SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dr. Henry Szlachta, who passed away on
4April 19, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Henry Szlachta was born on June 11, 1928 on a
6small farm in upstate New York; he married Margaret Galloway in
7May of 1957; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Henry Szlachta attended Cornell University in
9Ithaca, New York, where he spent one year in undergraduate
10studies before he was accepted into veterinary school; he
11subsequently earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from
12Cornell, where he was second in his class; during his studies,
13he did groundbreaking research on the rabies virus that is now
14included in the Veterinary Pathology Manual; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After graduating in 1950, Dr. Henry Szlachta
16became Director of the research lab at Cornell University; from
171950 to 1953, he served his country in the United States Army
18Veterinary Corps, serving in both Korea and Japan before
19receiving an honorable discharge in 1953; and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 1953, Dr. Henry Szlachta relocated to northern
21Illinois and established a farm animal veterinary practice

1(primarily beef and dairy cattle) in the McHenry and Lake
2County regions; he practiced for 50 years, plying the rural
3roads of McHenry and Lake Counties caring for primarily family
4farmers' beef and dairy herds; he retired in 2003 at the age of
575; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Henry Szlachta was preceded in death by his
7wife, Margaret; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Henry Szlachta is survived by 2 sons, Scott
9and Paul; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
12family and friends, mourn the passing of Dr. Henry Szlachta;
13and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Dr. Henry Szlachta as an expression
16of our sympathy.
