SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Merrill K. Douglass of Woodstock, who passed away on March 16, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass was born in Hebron Township on July 22, 1910 to Edwin and Emma (nee Boughton) Douglass; he married Delia Riemer on October 8, 1936 in Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass was a dairy farmer; he farmed with his father from 1933 until going on his own in 1945; he worked his own farms in the Greenwood and Woodstock areas until 1958; he also did custodial work for Woodstock High School and then Dean Street School until retiring in 1975; he was instrumental in the creation of School District 10, which encompassed rural schools in the Woodstock area; and

WHEREAS, After his retirement, Merrill Douglass traveled extensively, visiting family and friends, and finally settled in Walworth Wisconsin for many years; he returned to Woodstock in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass was preceded in death by his wife, Delia; his daughter, Ruth Freund; his grandson, Thomas Freund; his brothers, Leslie, Eugene, and Glenn; and his sisters, Ethelin, Lorraine, and Eva Jane; and

WHEREAS, Merrill Douglass is survived by his children, Delbert Douglas (Marilyn Payne), Frederick (Elizabeth) Douglass, Janet (Jonathon) Douglass-Davis, John (Mary) Douglass, Rosemary (Barney) Alewine, and Richard (Jill) Douglass; his grandchildren, Valerie (Brian) Berryhill, Joyce Prickett, Donna Everett, Jerome (Sharon) Freund, Brenda Hills, Teri (Bruce) Marks, Michael (Claire) Douglass, Eileen Foreman, Daniel Douglass, Donna Lonza, Andrew (Kristen) Douglass, Jennifer Douglass, Michele Aavang (Ron Behrens), Catherine (Arlyn) Roush, Robert Aavang (Matthew Cieniewski), Thomas Douglass, Patrick Douglass, Ruth (Josh) Burt, Robin (Joseph) Schultz, Randall Alewine, Benjamin Douglass, and Kyle Douglass; his step-grandchildren, David Davis (Julie Casey), Matthew Davis, Brandon (Stacy) Davis, and Michelle (Jason) Deliso; his 44 great-grandchildren; his 13 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Merrill K. Douglass, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Merrill Douglass as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
