SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Phyllis (nee Holowaty) Albrecht of Lake
4Bluff, who passed away on April 2, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Phyllis Albrecht was born in Chicago on May 22,
61934; she graduated from Taft High School and from Knox College
7in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy, where she was
8the first woman student body President; she settled in Lake
9Bluff in 1964; in 1971, she graduated from Northwestern
10University; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Phyllis Albrecht worked for 25 years, from 1972 to
121997, as a clinical instructor in speech and language pathology
13at Northwestern University; she was active in the American
14Speech-Language-Hearing Association; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Phyllis Albrecht became the first female Trustee
16on the Lake Bluff Village Board in 1973, serving until 1981;
17she then served as the first woman President of the village
18from 1981 to 1985; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Phyllis Albrecht was active with the League of
20Women Voters, serving as President of the Lake Bluff chapter
21from 1966 to 1968, and then as Co-President and President for

1the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff chapter from 1990 to 1994; she was
2named the inaugural recipient of the Carrie Chapman Catt Local
3Leadership Award in 2013; she helped establish the Lake Bluff
4History Museum, serving as Co-Chair of the fundraising
5committee and later as a board member; she played a key role in
6planning Lake Bluff's centennial celebration in 1995 as Chair
7of the Centennial Commission; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In 2014, in honor of Phyllis Albrecht, Lake Bluff
9created the Phyllis Albrecht Award to recognize distinguished
10community service; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Phyllis Albrecht was the beloved wife of James L.
12Albrecht for 58 years; the loving mother of Ann Michel (Scott),
13Karen Albrecht, and James M. Albrecht (Lisa Marcus); and the
14loving grandmother of Stephen, Jeffrey, and Gregory Michel and
15Hannah and Cecily Albrecht; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Phyllis Albrecht, and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Phyllis Albrecht as an expression of
