SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ruth M. Petersen of McHenry, who passed away on October 24, 2016 at the age of 87; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen was born in Chicago to Karl and Pauline Ziegler on July 17, 1929; she graduated from Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago and attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota; she married Edward H. Petersen at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Chicago on August 2, 1952; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen was involved in music and the church for over 70 years; she was a piano teacher for more than 40 years and served in various leadership roles in the Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association and the Illinois State Music Teachers Association; she also served in many leadership and volunteer positions at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, including Worship and Music Chairperson, Church Council, Assistant Organist and singing in the choir for 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Petersen; and her sisters, Elsie Gall and Mary Jane Boelens; and

WHEREAS, Ruth Petersen is survived by her loving companion, James Cavanaugh; her daughters, Cheryl (Dan) Boncher, Leslie (Scott) McGough, and Karen (Scott) Banach; her grandchildren, Brian Boncher, Christine (Roman) Savchenko, Rebecca McGough, Jessica McGough, and Michelle Banach; and her great-grandchildren, Cameron Boncher and Kyra Savchenko; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Ruth M. Petersen, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ruth Petersen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
