SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of George Warren Kenney of Springfield, who passed away on December 16, 2016; and

WHEREAS, George Kenney was born in Springfield to Charles Marshall and Alberta Mae Hillyard Kenney on June 4, 1937; he graduated from Springfield High School in 1955, where he played basketball, football, and baseball and played in the State Basketball Tournament; he earned his bachelor's degree from Millikin University in Decatur, where he played basketball, and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity; he earned his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, George Kenney was an attorney in Springfield for more than 50 years, primarily with the firm Kenney & Pearson; he was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Sangamon County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, George Kenney joined the American Business Club in January of 1967, where he served as President from 1975 to 1976, and became a life member in August of 1984; he enjoyed running and competed in three marathons; he also enjoyed golfing and his annual fishing trips to Bennett Springs, Missouri for the past 50 years; he was a regular patron at his favorite watering hole, where he enjoyed stimulating conversations and watching sports with his many friends; and

WHEREAS, George Kenney was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Zachary Clark; and

WHEREAS, George Kenney is survived by his son, Brian (Carolyn) Kenney; his daughters, Kara (Keith) Sias, and Jill Kenney; his grandchildren, Amanda (George) Metcalf, Matthew and Krista Kenney, and Holly and David Sias; his great-grandchildren, Gabe, Roman, and Freya Metcalf; his brother, Charles "Bud" (Janet) Kenney, M.D.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many members of the Maloy and Gietl families; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of George Warren Kenney, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George Kenney as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
