SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ferdinand "Ferd" H. Raffel, Jr. of Woodstock, who passed away on October 19, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. was born on January 1, 1932 in Woodstock; his parents were Ferdinand and Martha Raffel; he married Carol Stecker on December 13, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock; and

WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict; he was a member of the Woodstock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5040 and served for several years as a member of the Honor Guard; and

WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock and enjoyed ushering for many worship services; he was an avid woodworker, making special projects for his grandchildren and teaching them the woodworking skills to create their own masterpieces; he also enjoyed spending time with his loving family; and

WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lucy Poelling; his brother, Richard Raffel; and his brothers-in-law, Ralph Lang and Bill Stecker; and

WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. is survived by his wife, Carol Raffel; his children, Don (Cheryl) Raffel, Janette (Dan) Hess, and Barb (Keith) Sova; his grandchildren, Brittany (Marc) Hinderlider, Andrew Raffel, Renee Merz, David Hess, Brian Hess, Shannon (Greg) Topf, Rebecca Friedel, and Randy (Roseanna) Sova; his great-grandchildren, John McMahon, Alysia Foat, Aubrey Hinderlider, and Emma Hinderlider; his brother, Ted (Donna) Raffel; his brother-in-law, Ralph (Shirley) Stecker; his sisters-in-law, Marian Lang and Anita Stecker; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of Ferdinand "Ferd" H. Raffel, Jr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. as an expression of our sympathy.
