SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ferdinand "Ferd" H. Raffel, Jr. of
4Woodstock, who passed away on October 19, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. was born on January 1, 1932
6in Woodstock; his parents were Ferdinand and Martha Raffel; he
7married Carol Stecker on December 13, 1953 at the First United
8Methodist Church in Woodstock; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. served in the United States
10Navy during the Korean Conflict; he was a member of the
11Woodstock Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5040 and served for
12several years as a member of the Honor Guard; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. was an active member of
14Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock and enjoyed ushering for
15many worship services; he was an avid woodworker, making
16special projects for his grandchildren and teaching them the
17woodworking skills to create their own masterpieces; he also
18enjoyed spending time with his loving family; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. was preceded in death by his
20parents; his sister, Lucy Poelling; his brother, Richard
21Raffel; and his brothers-in-law, Ralph Lang and Bill Stecker;

2    WHEREAS, Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. is survived by his wife,
3Carol Raffel; his children, Don (Cheryl) Raffel, Janette (Dan)
4Hess, and Barb (Keith) Sova; his grandchildren, Brittany (Marc)
5Hinderlider, Andrew Raffel, Renee Merz, David Hess, Brian Hess,
6Shannon (Greg) Topf, Rebecca Friedel, and Randy (Roseanna)
7Sova; his great-grandchildren, John McMahon, Alysia Foat,
8Aubrey Hinderlider, and Emma Hinderlider; his brother, Ted
9(Donna) Raffel; his brother-in-law, Ralph (Shirley) Stecker;
10his sisters-in-law, Marian Lang and Anita Stecker; and many
11nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
14family and friends, mourn the passing of Ferdinand "Ferd" H.
15Raffel, Jr.; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Ferdinand Raffel, Jr. as an
18expression of our sympathy.
