SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Helyett Caroline Jones of Roodhouse, who passed away on August 31, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Helyett Jones was born on October 10, 1920 in Oran, Algeria; her parents were Charles and Antoinette Lauribe Pascual; she married James A. Jones on January 22, 1945 in Oran, Algeria; and

WHEREAS, Helyett Jones worked at Coffman Drug Store and King Freeze in Roodhouse before serving as a cook in the North Greene Junior High Schools for 16 years; and

WHEREAS, Helyett Jones visited many organizations over the years as a featured speaker, where she displayed her souvenirs from Oran, including the beautiful linens made by her mother and grandmother, and described her life in North Africa; she also visited French classrooms to help students learn to speak French and tutored French teachers; and

WHEREAS, Helyett Jones was a member of the Roodhouse Methodist Church since 1946; she was also a member of Christ Methodist Church in White Hall, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Women's Club, and Delta Sorority; and

WHEREAS, Helyett Jones enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, quilting, and traveling with her many friends; she was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan; and

WHEREAS, Helyett Jones was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and her brother, Charles (Lucienne) Pascual; and

WHEREAS, Helyett Jones is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Carl) Ehlert; her son, Dick (Lisa) Jones; her grandchildren, Beth (John) Stankoven, Kristen (Brad) Constable, Trista (Andy) Manar, Aimee (Drew) Forrester, and Rodney (Angela) Jones; and nine great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Helyett Caroline Jones; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Helyett Jones as an expression of our sympathy.
