SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James Nelson Mundell of Moline, who passed away on September 6, 2016; and

WHEREAS, James Mundell was born on his family's farm near Browning, Missouri to James Nesbitt and Pearl Kimbrough Mundell on June 8, 1927; he served in the United States Army Air Force as a Corporal during World War II from 1945 to 1947; he married Charlotte Elaine Nesser at First Covenant Church in Moline on September 10, 1949; and

WHEREAS, James Mundell worked for 10 years at Strombeck-Becker Manufacturing in Moline before becoming a part of the John Deere organization; he retired from John Deere Plow-Planter Industrial in Moline on September 30, 1987 after over 28 years of service as a toolroom machinist; prior to retirement, he started and was co-owner of Boymun Machine Company for 25 years; he was very successful in the stock market over 30 years as a day trader; and

WHEREAS, James Mundell was a longtime member of First Covenant Church, where he served as a deacon and trustee; he was an avid landscaper and was in charge of maintaining the church property; he was a member of the First Covenant Men's Brotherhood; he was known as the "Can Man" at church for many years, turning returnable bottles and aluminum cans into thousands of dollars for church youth projects; and

WHEREAS, James Mundell was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; his parents; four brothers; and one sister; and

WHEREAS, James Mundell is survived by his children, Marlyss (Steve) Vincent, Dr. Brian (Pat) Mundell, Keith Mundell, and Kevin (E. Scott Jackson) Mundell-Jackson; his grandsons, Matthew Mundell, Nathan Mundell, and Derek Vincent; his granddaughter, Emma Vincent; his great-grandson, Rowan Mundell; and his sisters, Ruth Viviani, Phyllis (Walt) Dengler, and Joyce Aldridge; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James Nelson Mundell, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of James Mundell an expression of our deepest sympathy.
