SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Peter Francis Schopen Sr. of McHenry, who passed away on August 12, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. was born in Evanston to Peter N. and Eugenia (Lundy) Schopen on October 20, 1946; he attended St. Joseph Grade School and later entered the United States Army as a Paratrooper in January of 1964, achieving the rank of Sergeant E5; he married Sandra Firestone at St. Monica Church in Carpentersville on August 12, 1978; and

WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. worked for Orkin, where he became one of the top salesman in the entire country; pest control became his passion, and in 1974, he started the Algonquin-based Mid Central Pest Control, which became one of the most successful pest control companies in the Chicagoland region for over 40 years; and

WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. was a member of Holy Apostles Catholic Church; he flew hand gliders and ultralight airplanes; he was an expert fisherman, an avid golfer, and a top bowler; he was a member of the VFW and the Lake in the Hills Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lois Constance; and

WHEREAS, Peter Schopen Sr. is survived by his wife, Sandy; his children, Brenda (Joe) Sparks, Pete (Tami) Schopen, Sonja Schopen, Anita (Mark) Pomazak, Dayle Schopen, Drake (Josie) Schopen, and Eric (Joanna) Schopen Sr.; his grandchildren, Peter (Trey) Schopen III, Caleb Schopen, Candace Lane, Hillary Knaack, Julia Schopen, Eric Schopen Jr., Dylan Schopen, Alex Pomazak, Abbie Childs, Nikki Pomazak, Luc Pomazak, Josh Smoot, Kayla Smoot, Ethan Marx, Kassie Marx, Alicia Marx, Thylor Schopen, Parys Schopen, Willie Gonzales Jr., Alonso Gonzales, and Grace Schopen; his great-grandchildren, Brendan Lane, Emma Knaack, Victoria Schopen, and Eric Channing Schopen III; his siblings, Virginia Spellman, Dan Schopen, Charlene Sepsey, and Eugene Schopen; and his best friend, Pat Carpenter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Peter Francis Schopen Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Peter Schopen Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
