SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary E. Mars of Richmond, who passed away on July 31, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Mary Mars was born on December 30, 1942 in Sycamore; her parents were Arthur and Margaret Metz; she married Edward J. Mars on December 20, 1963 in Chicago; and

WHEREAS, Mary Mars was a graduate of Richmond-Burton High School in 1961; and

WHEREAS, Mary Mars was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Richmond Township Highway Commissioner for 15 years until her retirement in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Mary Mars and her husband owned and operated Mars Auto Rebuilders for 13 years; they also owned the Mars Space Center and Favorite Pastimes Antiques; and

WHEREAS, Mary Mars was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Richmond; she was also involved in several organizations, such as the Richmond Lions Club and the American Legion Auxiliary, and taught line dancing in her community; and

WHEREAS, Mary Mars was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and her parents; and

WHEREAS, Mary Mars is survived by her children, Cherie (John) Janssen and James (Kathy) Mars; her grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Mars, Christopher (Bailey) Mars, and Taylor and Christian Janssen; and her brothers, Carl (Marilyn) Metz and Henry (Carol) Metz; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Mary E. Mars; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Mars as an expression of our sympathy.
