SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Cheryl Paulette Harris, who passed away on February 20, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Harris was born on November 23, 1948 to Fannie Mary Smith and Alphonso Harris; she attended Chicago Vocational High School and later received her GED; she met Ira Burton and gave him 3 daughters, Terese, Cherri, and Terri; in 1970, she met Darrell Wells "Tiger", the love of her life, and they had one daughter, Daphne Wells; although never married, they lived together happily for 45 years as husband and wife; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Harris had many jobs though out her life, but the most satisfying one was as a Certified Addiction Dependency Counselor at the Haymarket House; she worked in the maternal addiction unit and was passionate about helping women come into recovery and change their lives; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Harris was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Deborah Lynn Harris; and her favorite niece, Candice Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Cheryl Harris is survived by her soul mate, Darrell "Tiger"; her daughters, Terese, Cherri, Terri (Eric), and Daphne (Roy); her step-daughter, Denna; her brother, Frank (Bonita) and sisters, Cynthia (Clay), Denise (Eddie), Nancy, Joella, and Rhonda Burton (honorary sister); her grandchildren, Mia (Moses), Eboni, Lamar, Alicia, Danielle, and Diamond; her 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and extended family; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Cheryl Paulette Harris, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cheryl Harris as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
