SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joe M. Williams Jr. of Rock Island, who
4passed away on July 9, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Williams Jr. was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma
6to Joe M. Sr. and Ama Gann Williams on July 3, 1924; he
7graduated from Rock Island High School in 1942; he served his
8country in the United States Army during World War II in Japan
9and married Joan Y. Washburn on September 1, 1951; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joe Williams Jr., along with his family, owned and
11operated Sinclair and Cities Service gas stations in Moline for
12many years; he then found employment with the United States
13Postal Service as a mail sorter; he retired from the post
14office after 20 years of service; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Joe Williams Jr. was a member of First Baptist
16Church in Rock Island; he was also an avid chess player and
17past President of the Chess Club; he was a die-hard Chicago
18Cubs fan and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Joe Williams Jr. was preceded in death by his
20parents; his daughter, Caroline D. Williams; and his brothers,
21Bobby (Alice) and Jerry Williams; and

1    WHEREAS, Joe Williams Jr. is survived by his wife of 65
2years, Joan; his sons, Gary D. Williams and Terry B. Williams;
3his daughter, Diana J. Williams; his grandchildren, Wendy
4(Shawn) Weeks, Teresa (Chuck) Rosenbaum, Jessica Williams, and
5Amber Williams; seven great-grandchildren; and his sister,
6Jacqueline (Lawrence) Kistner; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Joe M. Williams Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Joe Williams Jr. as an expression of
14our deepest sympathy.
