SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gregory DeWitt "Pops" Holley Sr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who passed away on May 4, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was born in Waukegan to Jack and Juanita Holley on January 13, 1946; he graduated from North Chicago High School and attended Lutheran College in Iowa on a 4-year scholarship for football and track; he enlisted in the United States Army on January 3, 1966 and served with the 4th Infantry Division based in Ft. Carson, Colorado; he received an honorable discharge on December 15, 1967 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, and the Vietnam Service Medal; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was an active member of Wisconsin's American Legion Post 455 and was a proud veteran who loved his country and its flag; he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, visiting with his mother, sisters, and brother, and listening to music and watching sports; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Jack Holley; his sister, Laura Etta (Earl) Harris; his brothers, Jack Robert Holley, Sterling Holley, and Wayne Holley; and his grandson, Brandon Edwards; and

WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. is survived by his mother, Juanita Holley; his two sisters, Joyce (Johnny) Washington and Elaine Simmons; his brother, Bruce (Beverly) Holley; his son, Gregory (Kelly) Holley Jr.; his 3 daughters, Desiree (Kevin) Ross, Erica Edwards, and Serreah Holley; his 5 grandsons, Jevon Edwards, Gregory Holley III, Drue Holley, Jalen Holley, and Jaxon Holley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gregory DeWitt "Pops" Holley Sr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gregory Holley Sr. as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
