SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gregory DeWitt "Pops" Holley Sr. of
4Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who passed away on May 4, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was born in Waukegan to Jack
6and Juanita Holley on January 13, 1946; he graduated from North
7Chicago High School and attended Lutheran College in Iowa on a
84-year scholarship for football and track; he enlisted in the
9United States Army on January 3, 1966 and served with the 4th
10Infantry Division based in Ft. Carson, Colorado; he received an
11honorable discharge on December 15, 1967 and was awarded the
12National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with
13Device, and the Vietnam Service Medal; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was an active member of
15Wisconsin's American Legion Post 455 and was a proud veteran
16who loved his country and its flag; he enjoyed spending time
17with his grandsons, visiting with his mother, sisters, and
18brother, and listening to music and watching sports; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. was preceded in death by his
20father, Jack Holley; his sister, Laura Etta (Earl) Harris; his
21brothers, Jack Robert Holley, Sterling Holley, and Wayne
22Holley; and his grandson, Brandon Edwards; and

1    WHEREAS, Gregory Holley Sr. is survived by his mother,
2Juanita Holley; his two sisters, Joyce (Johnny) Washington and
3Elaine Simmons; his brother, Bruce (Beverly) Holley; his son,
4Gregory (Kelly) Holley Jr.; his 3 daughters, Desiree (Kevin)
5Ross, Erica Edwards, and Serreah Holley; his 5 grandsons, Jevon
6Edwards, Gregory Holley III, Drue Holley, Jalen Holley, and
7Jaxon Holley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Gregory DeWitt "Pops" Holley Sr., and extend our sincere
12condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
13him; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Gregory Holley Sr. as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
