SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dale Edwin Burklund of Peoria Heights,
4who passed away on May 3, 2016; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was born on January 6, 1926 in
6Peoria; his parents were Edwin O. and Lucile Burklund; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund graduated from Woodruff High School
8in 1943 and attended Purdue University from 1943 to 1945; he
9later served as a pilot with the United States Army Air Corps
10in Texas and was part of the 2011 Honor Flight; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was the owner of Burklund
12Distributors, Inc. in East Peoria and served as its Chairman
13and CEO from 1990 until his passing; he was a Founder of the
14Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino in East Peoria and was the
15organization's President and Chairman from 1990 to 1996; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was the President of the National
17Candy Wholesalers Association in 1976-1977 and volunteered for
18many other industry endeavors; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund served as a Board Member of the
20Proctor Healthcare Foundation, a Trustee of the Eureka College

1Board, a Board Member of the Easter Seals/UCP and a Tribute
2Dinner Honoree, Chairman of the Better Business Bureau, and a
3Campaign Manager for WTVP Capital; he was also a member of the
4First Christian Church of Peoria, the Country Club of Peoria,
5the Illinois Valley Yacht Club, Mohammed Shrine-Temple Lodge
6#40, and the Royal Order of the Jesters; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was a recipient of the Peoria
8Chamber Tom Connor Award and was proud to have supported the
9Red Cross by donating over 15 gallons of blood over his
10lifetime; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund enjoyed fishing near Minaki,
12Ontario, Canada, rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals, boating,
13and a good cigar; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund was preceded in death by his wife of
1563 years, Shirley Burklund; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dale Burklund is survived by his children, Janet
17Singer, Joyce Perino, Jayme (Rob) Hackett, and Jon (Rita)
18Burklund; his grandchildren, Jenn Perino, Frank (Julie) Perino
19II, Sarah (Jesse) McDonald, Rob (Lisa) Hackett II, Steven
20(Marie) Meints, Kelly (Justin) Puent, Corey (Paige) Burklund,
21and Abbi Singer; 13 great-grandchildren, plus another due in
22November of 2016; his sister, Carol Murowchick; and his canine

1companion, Happy; therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
4family and friends, mourn the passing of Dale Edwin Burklund;
5and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Dale Burklund as an expression of
8our sympathy.
