SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gerald A. Smith of Joliet, who passed away on April 14, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Smith was born in Chicago to Everett D. and Arla L. (Resler) Smith on December 8, 1934; he served in the United States Marine Corps; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Smith was a retired member of Local 150 Heavy Equipment Operators and Crest Hill Public Works; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Smith was a member of the Crest Hill Lions Club for many years; he was selected as Lion of the Year for 1973-1974; he enjoyed fishing, country music, playing Euchre and watching his sons play hockey and his daughter and granddaughters dance; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Ian Kasky; and his sister, Betty Ruth Provost; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Smith is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley A. (Restaino); his children, Glen (Lori) Smith, Jodi-Ann (Harvey) Kasky, and Troy (Dr. Jennifer) Smith; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Connor, and Jillian Smith, Julie-Ann, Hailey Rose, Kelsie Paige Kasky, and Jennifer (Kasky) Erickson, and Claire and Lee Brockway; his great-grandson, Jaxsen Zajac; his two sisters, Terri (Steven) Smith-Pfeiffer and Mary Etta Bechtel; his brother-in-law, James Restaino; and his nephew, Ereck Pfeiffer; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gerald A. Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gerald Smith as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
