SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Richard Powell, Jr.; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was born in Indianapolis,
5Indiana to Leona McDonald and Richard Powell, Sr. on September
630, 1931; he attended Crispus Attucks High School and was an
7honor roll student; he joined the United States Air Force in
8August of 1950 and served until September of 1953; and
 
9    WHEREAS, After the Korean War, Richard Powell, Jr.
10participated in the sport of boxing, becoming known as "Dick
11the Stick"; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was a member of The Word
13Evangelistic Church; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. was preceded in death by his
15parents; his siblings, Jessie (Mary Barbara) McDonald, Floyd
16(Loreen) Walton, and Berniece Walton; his son, Orlando Powell;
17his grandchildren, Hinisha and Sasha; his niece, Terri; and his
18special friend, O'neal; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Richard Powell, Jr. is survived by his three
20daughters, Gloria (Walter) Jones, Carmenda Staple, and Latwan

1(James) Harry; his stepchildren, Kim, Millitye, Nicole, Tanya,
2and Keith; his grandchildren, Shaleandra, Shamirah, Vernisha,
3Walter, Kenya, Kenny, Antwon, Lloyd, James Jr., Kiana, Lil
4Jeremiah, Jeremiah, Geremiah, Keanquntrell, Orlando Jr.,
5Marlando, Terrance, Derrick, and Lawanda; his nieces, Karen,
6Adriane, Janine, and Talja; his two nephews, Jessie Jr. and
7Randall; his 21 great-grandchildren; and his special friends,
8Donald, Chuck, and Apache; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Richard Powell, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Richard Powell, Jr. as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
