SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Gordon Von Bergen of Wonder Lake, who passed away on November 21, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was born in Evanston to Bernard and Esther (Sass) Von Bergen on January 7, 1941; he graduated from Arlington High School and married Patricia VanderKarr in Woodstock on August 5, 1967; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen farmed during his high school years in Elk Grove Village and then full time in Hebron until being drafted into the United States Army in 1965; he served in the Army from 1965 to 1967 in the Adjutant General office at Ft. Sheridan; he was Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of the newly formed Casualty Branch and was responsible for all U.S. Army personal notification of next of kin and appointing an SAO for the family of a soldier who is deceased, Missing in Action, or Wounded in Action in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota; he reached the rank of Specialist E-5; he loved and was proud of serving his country; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen worked as a real estate broker for many years at Berkshire Hathaway, formerly Town Square Realty; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Woodstock, where he was active as a Trustee; he was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Woodstock Moose Lodge, and the National Rifle Association; he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and traveling; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, Brian (Erin) Von Bergen; his two daughters, Christine (Steve) Tarnoki and Suzanne (David) Tonyan; his five grandchildren, Gunnar Von Bergen, Mitchell and Kiefer Tarnoki, and Henry and Ella Tonyan; his two brothers, Mel (Bobette) Von Bergen and Glen (Nancy) Von Bergen; his three sisters, Esther (Jim) Goebbert, Lois (Wes) Plote, and Ruth Mecklenburg; and many wonderful nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Gordon Von Bergen, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Gordon Von Bergen as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
