SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gordon Von Bergen of Wonder Lake, who
4passed away on November 21, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was born in Evanston to Bernard
6and Esther (Sass) Von Bergen on January 7, 1941; he graduated
7from Arlington High School and married Patricia VanderKarr in
8Woodstock on August 5, 1967; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen farmed during his high school
10years in Elk Grove Village and then full time in Hebron until
11being drafted into the United States Army in 1965; he served in
12the Army from 1965 to 1967 in the Adjutant General office at
13Ft. Sheridan; he was Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC)
14of the newly formed Casualty Branch and was responsible for all
15U.S. Army personal notification of next of kin and appointing
16an SAO for the family of a soldier who is deceased, Missing in
17Action, or Wounded in Action in Illinois, Wisconsin, and
18Minnesota; he reached the rank of Specialist E-5; he loved and
19was proud of serving his country; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen worked as a real estate broker
21for many years at Berkshire Hathaway, formerly Town Square
22Realty; and

1    WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was a member of St. John's
2Lutheran Church in Woodstock, where he was active as a Trustee;
3he was a member of the Farm Bureau, the Woodstock Moose Lodge,
4and the National Rifle Association; he loved the outdoors,
5hunting, fishing, and traveling; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen was preceded in death by his
7parents and an infant sister, Virginia; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gordon Von Bergen is survived by his wife,
9Patricia; his son, Brian (Erin) Von Bergen; his two daughters,
10Christine (Steve) Tarnoki and Suzanne (David) Tonyan; his five
11grandchildren, Gunnar Von Bergen, Mitchell and Kiefer Tarnoki,
12and Henry and Ella Tonyan; his two brothers, Mel (Bobette) Von
13Bergen and Glen (Nancy) Von Bergen; his three sisters, Esther
14(Jim) Goebbert, Lois (Wes) Plote, and Ruth Mecklenburg; and
15many wonderful nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Gordon Von Bergen, and extend our sincere condolences to his
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
